Music as you've never heard it before!
"A riveting, futuristic action-pic for the blind!" is how the Guardian described Field's High impact, over-the-top debut electronica album Storm!. Sonic grandeur meets blistering metal guitar solos in an recording that has more in common with Operation Desert Storm than anything natural, it is an album where excess meets understatement head-on. The raw energy of Storm! is driven by a highly original sound world: Ambrose journeyed to locations the world over to source field recordings desolate spaces, unique personal stories, military hardware testing, and urban protests. Bizarre stories, such as the personal yet public protest of a disillusioned theme park employee mingle with stadium-sized, post-digital rock tracks created from a plethora of electronically manipulated guitars and unusual percussion. Described by the BBC's Hear and Now programme as "Music pushing against its boundaries - aspiring to the visual" Storm! was four years in the making, and picked up an honorary mention at the prestigious Prix Ars Electronica awards. An explosive mix to be played loud!
This CD is the second set marking Simon Emmerson's long-awaited release of his most important works. The first CD 'Spaces and Places' was released in 2007 and these two CDs mark Emmerson's venture into new sonic territories and soundscapes. Each of the works on his latest release creates a futuristic context for non-western and early instruments, contrasting and expanding on the acoustic sounds with electronic interactions. Pathways, commissioned by the ShivaNova ensemble, is an interwoven East-meets-West tapestry where the dialogue between the sitar/tablas and the flute/cello is bonded by the electronics. The Points Trilogy features Jane Chapman's shimmering harpsichord (Points of Departure) and in Points of Return the harpsichord is replaced by Inok Paek's kayagum, a plucked Korean instrument. The brilliant Time-Space for bass flute, harpsichord and electronics completes this mesmerising album.
